SESOR BAGS HUMANITARIAN AWARD FROM THE ROTARY CLUB OF LAGOS

Lagos, Nigeria – 18th of January, 2023.

Rotary Club of Lagos, a global network of humanitarian who unite to create lasting change, voices support for Sesor, a nonprofit organization, in which the donations would be given to the displaced persons. Present at the Panel was Rotarian President Joseph O. Akhigbe who awarded Sesor a Recognition of Service award stemming from the insightful presentation on the Internally Displaced Persons: The Situation and Intervention.

Earlier projections of 3.2 million from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre’s (IDMC June, 2022) report has not improved. Sesor believes this figure could be much higher due to the continuous displacement in different regions of the country.

These same populations remain extremely vulnerable as They remain at high risk of physical attack, sexual assault, abduction, and are deprived of adequate shelter, food and health services.

Sesor has made noteworthy efforts over the years to offer basic relief services, livelihood support, wellness services & medical outreaches to assist in rebuilding what was lost.

“We’ve identified over 200 displaced women along with their families. Each family or household has about 6 people, according to UNICEF” says Mrs. Merit Emmanuel, Head of Programmes, Sesor. “We visit them in their settlements and provide basic wellness, livelihood and educational support but there’s more to be done to help them survive and thrive”.

Since 2010, Sesor has impacted over 100,000 displaced persons and helped over 186 children go back to school across Lagos, Benue, Kogi, Anambra & Abuja through the various outreaches and with the additional support of Rotary club Lagos, Sesor would continue its efforts of service to the displaced.
