Two days before we closed out for the year 2017, Coca-Cola Nigeria partnered with Sesor to provide 51 micro business kits worth N3,000,000 (three million naira) to enhance the livelihood of 51 women, as part of their 5by20 initiative – the company’s global commitment to enable the economic empowerment of 5 million women entrepreneurs across the company’s value chain by 2020.
The micro-business kits (each kit consisting of a cooler, a cooler carrier, a parasol and 5 crates of soft drinks) were distributed to the women at our office, on Tuesday 19 December, after a 1-day business management training session organized by Coca-Cola for them on Monday 18 December. The soft drinks were delivered to the women on Wednesday December 20.
Speaking on behalf of Coca-Cola at the event, Emeka Mba, the Community Affairs Manager, congratulated the women saying, “Women are blessed with the gift to multitask when it comes to trading and that’s why we have decided to provide you these products to sell in addition to your other businesses. Well done.”
In appreciation, Sesor’s Executive Director, Ier Jonathan-Ichaver, said, “We are very excited about this partnership as it has created an opportunity for the women to grow and become more self-dependent.”
A spokesperson for the women, Madam Veronica, thanked Coca-Cola on behalf of the women saying, “Thank you very much. God bless you for what you have done for us. We are also very grateful to Sesor for always bringing people like you to help us all the time. Thank you all very much.”
