Wondering what iEEP is? It is our women’s empowerment programme for women who are seeking to start life anew in Lagos after fleeing from Boko Haram.
Today was our first iEEPD-Day (Disbursement Day) as we disbursed soft microloans of N20,000 each to 21 internally displaced women. These women have successfully completed a 2-day financial education training and orientation programme co-facilitated by our partner, Grooming Centre and Sesor. The loan will be paid back over a 6-month period and those who successfully complete the loan cycle may be eligible to access more business financing afterwards.
At the disbursement venue, the first recipient, Veronica who sells roasted corn and pear, said, “I am looking forward to when I build my duplex from my hardwork in 5 or 10 years time!” and we all shouted “Amen”! Others like Hafsat and Fatima sell zobo and akara (beancakes).
Sesor will be working closely with these women to help them succeed and start life anew. Special thanks to our funding and technical partner on this project, Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre. We also thank Ruyicom for sharing their office space with us so we could register the women and A Whitespace Lagos for donating their space to train the women!
Don’t forget that you can support our rehabilitation work with women like Aisha, Veronica and Hafsat by making cash donations to our StanbicIBTC acct – 0002888203 or GTB acct – 0170089727.
